Two clocks
Official Russia and the reporting ran on separate clocks. Drag the slider or press play to step through each day. Tap any entry to see where it happened.
Every claim, and where it stands
Each claim carries its current status and the history of how it got there. Filter by status.
Three statements that changed
Between October 2 and October 4, three public statements were edited, deleted or recast. Toggle each one to compare. The text shown paraphrases the reporting. It is not the original post.
What the response looks like
Every number here comes from officials or news reports. None has been independently verified. Each one is color-coded by who stands behind it.
Each square is one person, using Izvestia's count. Squares fill to the share Rospotrebnadzor says has finished monitoring. That share is its own claim and has not been verified.
Measures are pinned to the town, not to street addresses.
The source matrix
Rows are the five claims that matter most. Columns are who made, carried or rejected them, grouped by type. Tap a cell for the specifics.
Requests out, denials back
Washington and Geneva asked for information. Moscow answered with reassurance and a dismissal. Here is the exchange, in order, in their own words.
What we don't know
These are the questions the public record cannot answer yet, and what would settle each one.
How we built this
Method
Every entry on this page traces to a named, linked source. We label each claim by who stands behind it, not by whether it sounds plausible. Where outlets disagree, we show both versions.
Reports from Russian domestic media and exiled Russian outlets reached us through the outlets that cite them. Those citations are labeled.
Scope
This report covers public statements, published reporting and the official response. TMI does not publish technical detail about dangerous pathogens or laboratory work.
