72. General Mark Hertling On The Threats Facing America. The Pandemic, Russia, Trump Yanks Troops From Germany, Unrest in Belarus. Is Kamala Harris Ready to be Commander-in-Chief? President Mayhem vs The Post Office. RIP, College Football 2020.

As the pandemic, the 2020 election and Black Lives Matter protests dominate new headlines, America’s national security is more vulnerable than at any other time in recent memory. Our military has been weakened, our troops have been politicized, our people are sick, our country is divided, and our enemies are celebrating. Everyone is talking about the upcoming election. Few are talking about how to protect it from the Russians. Or how to deal with a multitude of other national security threats that face our country at this fragile time. But Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) is focused on it. And the independent activist, Army veteran and national security analyst is joined by retired Army Three-Star General Mark Hertling (@MarkHertling) [53:32] for an important and inspiring conversation that you need to hear. General Hertling served almost four decades in the US Army where he commanded US Army Europe and Seventh Army, led over forty thousand soldiers, cared for over one hundred thousand family members, and partnered with the armies of fifty countries in the European theater. Hertling is a military analyst for CNN, was appointed by President Obama to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, and is a senior vice president at Florida Hospital. Hertling is one the most dynamic military experts in the media and a highly-sought after expert on leadership, national security and health. He breaks down the threats facing America, analyzes the leadership of President Trump and newly nominated VP candidate and Senator Kamala Harris, and shares key insights about how to lead in tough times like this–whether you’re leading a large company or your own family. It’s another important and inspiring episode of Angry Americans—the best weekly podcast in America for independent politics, news and culture. 71. Rex Chapman. The Master of Twitter Inspiration and Former NBA Star on the Pandemic, Trump, BLM, and Sports Reopening. Shutting Down Mitch McConnell. Opening Up About Opioid Addiction. Playing for Team USA with the Admiral. Going Viral in a Pandemic.

Former NBA star (@RexChapman) [17:53] has quickly become one of the single most popular and beloved figures on Twitter. Rex was a basketball superstar. He took the Kentucky Wildcats to the Sweet 16. And played for the USA national team in the Pan-AM games.  He was an NBA lottery pick, going #8 overall in the 1988 draft. He electrified America in the dunk competition, and played for 12 seasons for the Charlotte Hornets, Washington Bullets, Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns. Always a fan favorite, Rex once dropped 39 points on Michael Jordan. But injuries eventually drove him out of the game. And into addiction. After his playing days ended, Rex fell into gambling and the deepest depths of opioid addiction. He fell hard–and he fell in public. And it almost killed him. But Rex Chapman has always been a fighter. And he fought back. He got help. He got support. And he started a new life after opioids, helping others where he could.  Especially on Twitter–where his account has become a daily visit for millions. From friends of this pod like Ambassador Susan Rice, Ron Perlman, Stephanie Ruhle and Jeffrey Wright, to Booger McFarland and Martina Navratilova, to LTC Alexander Vindman, to Megyn Kelly, to Trevor Noah, to McHammer, to Congressman Justin Amash and Congresswoman AOC–they all follow Rex. And he’s not just posting videos. He’s calling BS. He’s putting out good information. And he’s making an impact.  Independent activist, Army veteran and renowned social entrepreneur Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) leads a candid, extended and fascinating conversation with one of the most influential voices in American social media. 69. Norman Lear. On His 98th Birthday, the WW II Vet & American Icon on Bountygate, Trump, Biden’s VP, Bloody Marys, Archie Bunker and the Secret to a Good Life. Why Cops Shouldn’t Wear Camouflage. CPT Portland and the Moms vs President Mayhem.

If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. And Norman Lear (@TheNormanLear) is understandably angry. [57:52] A true icon and a dedicated patriot, the legendary creator of All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son and over 100 other TV shows has defined American television, culture and race-relations for generations. He’s a decorated World War Two veteran that flew 52 combat missions over Europe, a trailblazing philanthropist, and a tenacious civil rights activist. He won five Emmys and a Golden Globe; was labeled the “No. 1 enemy of the American family” by Jerry Falwell; made it onto Richard Nixon’s “Enemies List”; was presented with the National Medal of the Arts by President Clinton. As national security controversies dominate headlines like never before, host Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) tears into the urgent latest news on possible Russian bounties paid to kill US troops. The President and Secretary of Defense Esper knew about it all. We cover Trump’s shameful attacks on Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman that drove him out of the military, the grisly murder of Army Specialist Vanessa Guillen, the skyrocketing number of coronavirus cases inside the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Tucker Carlson’s outrageous slander of decorated combat veterans and US Senator, Tammy Duckworth. It’s a flurry of news you need to know about. All this while a blockbuster new Washington Post investigative story reveals that dozens of dying veterans were tested with unproven coronavirus cures pushed by Trump and Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Wilkie. Trump lied and veterans died. The stakes have never been higher–and independent Army veteran and activist Rieckhoff rips through it all like only he can.  And all of this unfolds as sports finally returns to play across America. Major League Baseball has restarted, the NBA is back in action, and NFL football is hoping to do the same soon. But players are getting sick, pushing back and speaking out. This while Trump attacks African-American NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace and Quarterback Colin Kaepernick and even defends the display of the Confederate flag at sporting events. The intersections of sports and politics have never been more intense. The dynamic Joy Taylor (@JoyTaylorTalks) is the important, inspiring and iconic guest who joins Angry Americans to guide us through all of it. Joy is one of the most dynamic, up-and-coming stars in the world of sports media and the charismatic co-host of The Herd with Colin Cowherd (@TheHerd)–the massively popular and influential daily show on Fox Sports 1. If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. And actor and activist Ron Perlman (@perlmutations) is understandably angry. [1:02:35] Ron is known and loved worldwide for his popular roles in Sons of Anarchy, Hellboy, Beauty and the Beast and more. But he’s never had an audience like the one that watched his fiery and personal Twitter fight with Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz and Texas Senator Ted Cruz this weekend. It got nasty, it got personal, and it got attention around the globe. Ron was one of the pods’ very first guests and returns to Angry Americans to take us exclusively behind the scenes of a wild weekend that had him trending on Twitter, challenged to a wrestling match with a Congressman, and making political headlines nationwide. Ron pulls no punches and gives us a fascinating insight into the bizarre, bareknuckle intersection of Twitter, politics, Trump, Hollywood, activism, and celebrity.  In this episode, we connect with another activist on the frontlines of our unfolding political battlefields. 63. Wayne Smith. Warrior For Peace. The Funeral of George Floyd. “Defund The Police” vs “Reform the Police”. COVID-19 Hits the DC National Guard. Sec Deaf Yesper Almost Gets Fired. Gen. Milley Apologizes. COPS Gets Cancelled. Banksy is right. #StayFrosty

In this episode, we’ll take a step back from the frontline of our war against the virus to get some perspective. We’ll look back at history, so we can find a way forward. We’ll get up on the balcony, have a smoke, and look down on the chaotic moshpit of a dancefloor that is America right now.  We’ll slow down a bit, so we can go fast. We’ll explore what war, racism, the virus and President Mayhem are doing to our soul — as individuals and as a nation. And we’ll have deep conversation with Wayne Smith, [1:22:14] a man that is so cool that his Twitter handle is really @1soulbrother. Movements need leaders. And later, if they survive, movement leaders graduate to become elders. And that’s what Wayne is. He’s an elder for America.  Wayne Smith is a warrior turned peacemaker.  Wayne Smith is an accomplished veterans advocate who has worked with war veterans for nearly four decades. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, he was an altar boy and choirboy. After serving nearly 18 months in Vietnam as a combat medic, Wayne overcame his own wartime trauma before becoming a nationally recognized mental health therapist and advocate for war veterans. Smith has led educational programs about veterans and the causes and consequences of war, and helped raise more than $2 million for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. In 1998, Smith returned to Vietnam with 20 American veterans to promote peace and reconciliation. Together with 20 Vietnamese soldiers, these former enemies rode bicycles 1,200 miles — from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City — to help heal some of the wounds of that war. Smith is also one of the veterans featured in the Emmy Award winning documentary about the war. He also serves on the board of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). As the tempers flare hotter and hotter, all across America, Wayne joins us to bring some perspective, wisdom, history and, maybe most of all, peace through strength.  It’s needed at this time. A time when we — more than ever as a nation — must respect our elders. At a time when as a nation we’re losing more of our elders than ever. We’re losing them to time — and especially — to the virus.  As anger, activism and the stupid continue to engulf more and more of the country, we’ll try to bring a little peace.  Angry Americans continues a groundbreaking focus on the front-line fighters of the war against COVID-19–and now the civil unrest that has erupted nationally since the killing of George Floyd—with another important, inspiring and iconic guest.  It’s another episode of the most dynamic podcast in America for independent politics, news and culture. And the pod continues to make waves and was recently featured on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Variety, NPR, The New York Times, and on SiriusXM.  Get special access to behind-the-scenes content, to Paul Rieckhoff, to our guests, and to special offers by joining the powerful Angry Americans community on Patreon.
