Willie Geist (@WillieGeist) is one of the most beloved leaders in American media. The co-host of Morning Joe and Host of NBC’s TODAY, Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist, and the Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist podcast, is back on Angry Americans for a uniquely candid, extended and fun conversation with his buddy, Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff).[1:28:54] Willie was our first every guest on the pod back in Episode 1. And now, he’s finally back to talk about life hosting the show that Trump watches (and attacks) on a regular basis, interviewing newsmakers from his garage, his favorite band, fatherhood in the pandemic, and his love of hip-hop. It’s Willie Geist like you’ve never heard him before–as the master interviewer becomes the interviewee.  Angry Americans is the freshest and realist breakdown of the news in America–and jumped to the top of the political and news podcast charts worldwide. Paul Rieckhoff takes you into the July 4th holiday with a laid-back, fun, and at times serious, conversation with one of the most influential voices in America. The renowned activist and author also rips through the most important stories shaping the future of our country. Russian bounties paid to kill US troops, Trump’s decision to finally wear a mask, the skyrocketing number of coronavirus cases at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and push to change the names of military bases dedicated to traitorous racists. And presents “Operation Free America”—a strategy to combat Trump. Fresh off news-making appearances on CNN with Chris Cuomo and MSNBC with Ari Melber and shout-outs from Chuck D of Public Enemy, Rieckhoff tears into all of it.  It’s an Independence Day special episode of THE podcast for independent American politics, news and culture. [1:23:12] An Army veteran and one of the most influential trans activists in the world, she’s gone from from a trailer park in Texas, to Army Infantry Basic Training at Fort Benning, to advocating for transgender people worldwide. 64. Ron Perlman. EXCLUSIVE: The Man Who Stomped Ted Cruz & Matt Gaetz on Twitter. Trump vs the Generals. Atlanta Cops Charged in Rayshard Brooks Case. The George Floyd Murder is the My Lai of Policing. Father’s Day in a Pandemic.

If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. And actor and activist Ron Perlman (@perlmutations) is understandably angry. [1:02:35] Ron is known and loved worldwide for his popular roles in Sons of Anarchy, Hellboy, Beauty and the Beast and more. But he’s never had an audience like the one that watched his fiery and personal Twitter fight with Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz and Texas Senator Ted Cruz this weekend. It got nasty, it got personal, and it got attention around the globe. Ron was one of the pods’ very first guests and returns to Angry Americans to take us exclusively behind the scenes of a wild weekend that had him trending on Twitter, challenged to a wrestling match with a Congressman, and making political headlines nationwide. Ron pulls no punches and gives us a fascinating insight into the bizarre, bareknuckle intersection of Twitter, politics, Trump, Hollywood, activism, and celebrity.
In this episode, we connect with another activist on the frontlines of our unfolding political battlefields. Ron Perlman is a man in the modern political arena, throwing punches with a United States Senator for all the world to see. Ron also chops it up with Paul about Black Lives Matter, what shows he’s been binging during the pandemic, and his favorite band of all time. It’s a raucous and fun conversation with one of the most controversial and entertaining voices in America.
And fresh off a round of national media appearances, Army veteran and renowned activist Paul Rieckhoff breaks down Trump’s escalating war with high-profile retired Generals like James Mattis, David Petreaus, Colin Powell and Martin Dempsey and his unprecedented speech at West Point’s graduation. He’s got the latest news you need to know that has him angry, has others angry, and should have everyone angry.
It’s another episode of THE podcast for independent American politics, news and culture. The influence and audience of Angry Americans continues to grow and has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Variety, NPR, The New York Times and SiriusXM.

63. Wayne Smith. Warrior For Peace. The Funeral of George Floyd. “Defund The Police” vs “Reform the Police”. COVID-19 Hits the DC National Guard. Sec Deaf Yesper Almost Gets Fired. Gen. Milley Apologizes. COPS Gets Cancelled. Banksy is right. #StayFrosty

In this episode, we’ll take a step back from the frontline of our war against the virus to get some perspective. We’ll look back at history, so we can find a way forward. We’ll get up on the balcony, have a smoke, and look down on the chaotic moshpit of a dancefloor that is America right now.  We’ll slow down a bit, so we can go fast. We’ll explore what war, racism, the virus and President Mayhem are doing to our soul — as individuals and as a nation. And we’ll have deep conversation with Wayne Smith, [1:22:14] a man that is so cool that his Twitter handle is really @1soulbrother. Movements need leaders. And later, if they survive, movement leaders graduate to become elders. And that’s what Wayne is. He’s an elder for America.  Wayne Smith is a warrior turned peacemaker.  Wayne Smith is an accomplished veterans advocate who has worked with war veterans for nearly four decades. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, he was an altar boy and choirboy. After serving nearly 18 months in Vietnam as a combat medic, Wayne overcame his own wartime trauma before becoming a nationally recognized mental health therapist and advocate for war veterans. Smith has led educational programs about veterans and the causes and consequences of war, and helped raise more than $2 million for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. In 1998, Smith returned to Vietnam with 20 American veterans to promote peace and reconciliation. Together with 20 Vietnamese soldiers, these former enemies rode bicycles 1,200 miles — from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City — to help heal some of the wounds of that war. Smith is also one of the veterans featured in the Emmy Award winning documentary about the war. He also serves on the board of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). As the tempers flare hotter and hotter, all across America, Wayne joins us to bring some perspective, wisdom, history and, maybe most of all, peace through strength.  It’s needed at this time. A time when we — more than ever as a nation — must respect our elders. At a time when as a nation we’re losing more of our elders than ever. We’re losing them to time — and especially — to the virus.  As anger, activism and the stupid continue to engulf more and more of the country, we’ll try to bring a little peace.  Angry Americans continues a groundbreaking focus on the front-line fighters of the war against COVID-19–and now the civil unrest that has erupted nationally since the killing of George Floyd—with another important, inspiring and iconic guest.  It’s another episode of the most dynamic podcast in America for independent politics, news and culture. Trump’s VA is treating veterans with unproven drug

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/10/opinions/va-treating-veterans-unproven-drug/index.html (CNN)The Department of Veterans Affairs could learn an important lesson from their colleagues at SpaceX and NASA after the historic launch to the International Space Station last month was initially postponed due to inclement weather. When there’s a storm rolling in, you don’t fly into it, no matter how much a powerful person looking on wants it to happen. For months now, we’ve been hearing President Donald Trump tout the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a “game changer” without providing any evidence of its efficacy as a treatment for coronavirus patients. Trump, who took a two-week course of the drug as a prophylactic, has asked, “What do you have to lose?” For weeks now, studies have found that those taking hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid-19 are not showing improvement — and may be dying at a higher rate. (although at least one study finding that the drug had increased risks was recently withdrawn amidst controversy). The US Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health have warned about the use of these drugs by coronavirus patients outside of a hospital or clinical trial setting. As we recognize the 76th anniversary of D-Day this month, the President and the Department of Veterans Affairs are using our veterans as guinea pigs to test Trump’s disproven theory about the potentially dangerous drug. World Health Organization Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, halted testing of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for Covid-19, France has banned it, and even Dr. Anthony Fauci thinks the drug shows no scientific promise. Despite this, Trump and his VA Secretary are continuing to use the drug on veterans with Covid-19. Although Veteran Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie said last month that the prescriptions have been “ratcheted down,” the VA said it had already prescribed the drug about 1,300 veterans in accordance with FDA guidelines. When an earlier observational study using the VA’s own data found that veterans given hydroxychloroquine showed no improvement, with more deaths among those taking the drug compared to patients who received standard care, Wilkie defended the use of the drug and pushed an unsubstantiated claim in an interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, saying, “We know the drug has been working on middle-age and younger veterans.” That was in late April, and despite no substantiated evidence for his statement. Trump said he took hydroxychloroquine to prevent coronavirus, but new study shows that doesn't work Trump said he took hydroxychloroquine to prevent coronavirus, but new study shows that doesn’t work Wilkie continued to double-down on his sycophantic lie. Two weeks ago, he told ABC’s Martha Raddatz the drug has preventative qualities, again echoing Trump. “We do know in many cases that the drug given over a sustained period of time can be a prophylactic. And what we were trying in the last hours of a patient’s life was to try to make sure that we’ve done everything we could given the circumstances,” he said. Those are lies. There’s no data to show the prophylactic success of hydroxychloroquine for Covid-19. Wilkie told Raddatz: “the instruction from the President is to do as much as we can to preserve life.” Well, they’ve failed. More than 16,000 veterans and individuals associated with the VA have tested positive for Covid-19, and more than 1,400 have died. VA continues to obscure and bumble the release of patient information to the public. Last week, the agency went five full days without updating its public figures — including the number of dead. The pandemic’s toll on veterans remains unclear. The VA, for one, does not include those who have died in state-run veterans’ homes on its tracking site. The Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, Massachusetts, for example, has already seen 93 veterans die. At the Menlo Park Veterans Memorial Home in New Jersey, every single resident tested positive for coronavirus; 62, or 34%, died. While these homes are not under the direct oversight of the VA, state veterans’ homes like the one in Holyoke are routinely investigated by it, and could certainly use reinforcements from in the form of PPE, cleaning supplies, and additional staff. Instead, the reinforcements are coming in the form of an unproven drug administered to those that held back the Nazis in World War II. In another affront to our veterans, Wilkie refused to remove Nazi swastikas from three gravestones in American National Cemeteries for weeks. Two VA cemeteries in Texas and Utah contain the graves of German POWs captured during World War II, and Army officials approved swastikas and inscriptions honoring Adolf Hitler on the grave stones in the 1940s. A retired senior officer recently discovered the grave markers and called it “disgusting,” but the VA issued a statement citing The National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and the responsibility to “protect historic resources, including those that recognize divisive historical figures or events.” Instead of removing the grave markers, Wilkie, who has long ties with racist and divisive causes, including being an aide to North Carolina Sen. Jesse Helms, who denounced Martin Luther King Jr., said he was looking to “find a way to put this in historical context.” Wilkie’s comments were particularly shocking, given the raging national debate about racism in America. He defended the display of swastikas more tenaciously than he defended the thousands of veterans dying from Covid-19. He finally backed down, but only after criticism from both lawmakers and veterans. Our “greatest generation” faced down a menacing global threat and saved America. Now it’s time for Trump, Wilkie and all of America to face down another menacing global threat and save them.   If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. Especially now. But this show is about more than being angry. It’s also about being active, informed and vigilant. It’s bigger than any party–and truly about putting our country first.
